Sai Baba's methods were profound and aimed at the welfare of his devotees. While his own stories were powerful, he often had scriptures read to provide confirmation and deeper understanding. As described in Chapter 18, Baba would tell a devotee a short story and then send them to Sathe's Wada to listen to the reading. The devotee would discover that the exact same story was being read from the book, making Jnaneshwar’s Jnaneshwari or Eknath’s speech seem like a direct translation of Baba's own words. This practice demonstrated his divine connection to the ancient texts and enriched the devotees' spiritual experience.
Why would Baba make people read books that are thousands of years old instead of just giving his own unique teachings? Weren't his words enough for his devotees?
