Why were people uncertain whether Baba had passed away or was in a trance during his Mahasamadhi?

The confusion surrounding Sai Baba's final moments stemmed from a previous, extraordinary event described in Chapter 44. The text recounts an incident that occurred 32 years prior, where Baba drew his life force up into the crown of his head and remained in a death-like state for three full days. This caused immense doubt among his followers as to whether it was a deep trance (Samadhi) or actual death. Just as people began discussing final rites, he suddenly returned to his body, dispelling their anxiety. Because of this past demonstration of his complete authority over life and death, when his breath finally ceased for the last time, his followers were understandably hesitant and doubtful.
