Why were people so confused about whether Sai Baba had truly died or was just in a deep trance?

The confusion surrounding Sai Baba's passing, as detailed in Chapter 44, stemmed from a remarkable event that had occurred 32 years prior. In that earlier instance, Baba had drawn his life force into the crown of his head and appeared to be dead for three full days. As people began to discuss the final rites, he suddenly returned to his body, dispelling their anxiety. Because of this precedent, when his breath ceased on Vijayadashami, his followers were doubtful. They questioned whether it was a final death or another deep trance (Samadhi), making them hesitate for twenty-six hours before proceeding with the final arrangements.
