The doubt and deliberation following Sai Baba's passing stemmed from a past event that was still vivid in the devotees' minds. As Chapter 44 recounts, there was a previous incident (32 years prior) where Baba had drawn his life force into the crown of his head for three full days, appearing to be dead. He then suddenly returned to his body, dispelling everyone's anxiety. Because of this history, when Baba's breath finally ceased on Vijayadashami, everyone became doubtful.
