Why was there a delay in Cholkar fulfilling his vow, and what personal sacrifice did he make during this period?

📖 Chapter 15

After Cholkar's wish was granted and he passed his examination, there was a delay in fulfilling his vow to visit Shirdi. The reason for this delay was his financial situation. Chapter 15 explains that for a worldly man, household expenses, referred to as the "threshold-ghat," are very difficult to cross. He simply could not afford the journey and had to keep postponing it. As a form of penance and to maintain the sanctity of his delayed vow, Cholkar gave up sugar entirely, treating it as an inedible substance. The text explicitly mentions that he even drank his tea without sugar until he was finally able to go to Shirdi and fulfill his promise.
