Why was Mamlatdar Dev suspicious when the Sanyasi returned to Dahanu after only a month?

Mamlatdar Dev's suspicion arose from the Sanyasi's unexpectedly early return. During their first meeting, Dev had explicitly told the Sanyasi that the timing for a new donation collection was unfavorable due to another fund being raised in town. As Chapter 40 recounts, Dev had suggested the Sanyasi come back after two to four months. When Dev saw the Sanyasi alighting from a tonga in front of a neighbor's house just one month later, he became doubtful. He wondered to his son why the man had come back so soon and questioned if the Sanyasi had forgotten their previous conversation.
