Why was Dev so suspicious when the Sanyasi returned to Dahanu after their first meeting?

Dev's suspicion was rooted in the Sanyasi's unexpectedly quick return. In their first meeting, Dev had explicitly told the Sanyasi to come back after two or four months because another fundraising effort was active in the town. However, Chapter 40 states that the Sanyasi reappeared in a tonga only about a month later. This premature return made Dev feel doubtful, and he wondered, "Did he forget what was said earlier?" This discrepancy between Dev's instructions and the Sanyasi's actions was the primary source of his suspicion, making him question the man's motives for being there so soon.
