Why was Balasaheb Deo having such a difficult time reading the Dnyaneshwari, even though he really wanted to?

Even when he took a three-month leave from work to focus on spiritual matters, he found himself reading other books but could not make progress with the Dnyaneshwari. The text explains that when he did attempt to read it, doubts would surface in his heart, making the reading feel superficial and preventing him from developing a true love for the text. This struggle continued to the point where he couldn't even manage to read five verses consistently each day.
