Why was Amir Shakkar staying in the Chavadi, and what were the conditions like there?

Amir Shakkar, who was afflicted by rheumatism, sought a cure from Sai Baba. As Chapter 22 explains, Baba's remedy was for him to reside steadily in the Chavadi. The conditions of this place were exceptionally poor. The building was old, dilapidated, and described as a home for lizards and poisonous scorpions. It was filled with garbage, seventeen knee-deep holes, and was also occupied by lepers. The environment was characterized by dampness from below, rain from above, and a constant chaotic mix of wind and cold. Despite these miserable circumstances, Amir stayed, following Baba's command.
