Why is it so important to surrender the ego when following a Guru?

📖 Chapter 27

The teachings in Chapter 27 highlight that the ego is a primary obstacle to spiritual progress. The individual soul, or 'Jiva,' is described as limited by ignorance and ego, while the all-knowing 'Shiva' is egoless. The Guru is the only one who can remove this distinction. To achieve this, a devotee must surrender their mind, thoughts, and doubts to the Guru. Furthermore, as Chapter 27 clarifies, all power of action should also be surrendered to Sai. By working without ego and placing the full burden on the Guru, perfect success is achieved. The text warns that holding even a little pride will result in immediate negative consequences.
