Why does the author, Hemadpant, believe that faith and patience are indispensable for spiritual seekers?

📖 Chapter 2

Hemadpant, the author, came to understand the indispensability of faith (Shraddha) and patience (Saburi) through direct instruction and personal experience. In Chapter 2, he recounts being taught that debating is a harmful trait and that one should not compete with others. This lesson is immediately followed by the powerful declaration that "Without faith (Shraddha) and patience (Saburi), Not a bit of the spiritual goal is achieved." The author explicitly mentions that this is a "scriptural truth" which he "experienced later." Therefore, his belief is rooted in both the received wisdom from his Guru, Sai, and his own subsequent life events which confirmed this principle as being absolutely fundamental to achieving any spiritual goal, as he explains in Chapter 2.
