Why does Chapter 11 say it's so important to worship a Guru in a physical, manifest form? Isn't the formless God the ultimate goal?

📖 Chapter 11

Chapter 11 explains that for a worshipper who has a physical body, the Guru must also be in a physical, or manifest (Saguna), form. The text states, "for the formless, the formless is suitable—this is the determination of the scriptures." The chapter argues that true devotion doesn't arise without meditating on this manifest form. It uses a beautiful analogy, explaining that until loving devotion occurs, "the bud of the mind does not open." Just as a flower must bloom to release its fragrance, the mind must open through devotion to a manifest Guru. Ultimately, as Chapter 11 clarifies, the manifest (Sakara) and unmanifest (Nirakara) are not different; they are two aspects of the same reality, like ghee which is the same substance whether it is frozen solid or melted liquid.
