Why does Chapter 11 of the Sai Satcharitra argue that worshipping a Guru with a physical form is essential for a devotee's spiritual progress?

📖 Chapter 11

Chapter 11 of the Sai Satcharitra makes a strong case for the importance of a Saguna (manifest) Guru. The text posits that as long as the worshipper has a physical form, the Guru must also be in a physical form for devotion to truly blossom. It is through the manifest form that love can be expressed and worship can be performed with tangible offerings like sandalwood and grains. The chapter explains that it is much easier to understand the Saguna than the Nirguna (unmanifest), and once love for the Saguna is firmly established, the realization of the Nirguna will naturally follow. As the scripture states, without meditating on the manifest form, loving devotion does not occur, and the mind cannot open up to higher spiritual experiences, much like a flower that must bloom to release its fragrance.
