Why did the author of Sai Satcharitra initially refuse to visit the saint in Bandra, and what lesson did he learn from it?

📖 Chapter 21

In Chapter 21, the author, Hemadpant, recounts his own experience while he was a Magistrate in Bandra. He was repeatedly urged to visit a famous Siddha named Pir Maulana but refused. He explains his mindset at the time was one of pride, thinking, "Why should I go? Should I be pressured by others and lose my own prestige?" He later reflects that this refusal was due to his own "ill-luck" standing in the way. From this experience, he learned the profound lesson that the company of Saints is not accessible to the unfortunate and that one needs good fortune and God's grace to attain such a meeting, which he later found in Shirdi.
