Why did the author of Sai Satcharitra fail to visit the saint Pir Maulana in Bandra?

In Chapter 21, the author, Hemadpant, recounts his personal experience while serving as a Magistrate in Bandra. A servant named Inus persistently urged him to visit a famous Siddha, Pir Maulana. However, Hemadpant admits that his pride and ill-fortune stood in the way. He thought to himself, "Why should I go? Should I be pressured by others and lose my own prestige?" He reflects that he never went for the vision because "one fears one's own shadow when ill-luck stands in the way."
