Why did Sai Baba pointedly ask for Dakshina from Kaka Mahajani but not his friend, and what was the outcome?

📖 Chapter 35

Chapter 35 details a very deliberate interaction regarding Dakshina. Kaka Mahajani's friend had come to Shirdi with the specific condition that he would not provide any Dakshina. Knowing this, Sai Baba twice asked for Dakshina, but only from Kaka Mahajani. The first time, Baba asked for and received Dakshina from Kaka. Later, when they requested permission to leave, Baba again asked only Kaka for a specific amount of seventeen rupees. Chapter 35 explicitly states that Baba "asked nothing of the friend." This calculated omission had a profound effect; instead of feeling relieved, the friend "then felt restless in his mind." By not asking him for the Dakshina he was resolved to withhold, Baba created a new kind of internal conflict and longing within the friend, demonstrating his unique method of teaching.
