Why did Sai Baba insist on his devotees giving Dakshina?

According to the texts, Sai Baba's intention in asking for Dakshina was profound and aimed at the spiritual purification of his followers. As detailed in Chapter 14, many devotees were entirely attached to the world and gripped by greed. Baba's purpose was that through the act of giving Dakshina, their hearts would become pure. The scripture describes this as Sai Nath, the ocean of mercy, stretching out his hand to pull the greed-oriented person up from the pit of greed for their own benefit and spiritual upliftment.
