While Sai Baba acknowledged that Knowledge (Jnana) is the greatest path, Chapter 19 clarifies why he often advised Devotion (Bhakti) instead. The path of Knowledge is likened to a Ramphal fruit, which requires great patience to ripen and carries the 'fear of falling,' meaning even a person of knowledge is not fearless and must be constantly vigilant. Any negligence can be detrimental. In contrast, the path of Devotion is compared to a Sitaphal fruit, which is easily accessible, sweet, and requires very little labor to enjoy. Given this ease and sweetness, Sai, the 'Cloud of Mercy,' mostly explained Devotion and the chanting of the Name (Namasmaran) to his disciples as a more practical means to break the bonds of worldly existence.
Why did Sai Baba generally recommend the path of Devotion over the path of Knowledge for his followers?
