Initially, Sai Baba did not take anything from anyone, whether they were a devotee or not. According to the account in Chapter 14, he would only use a small coin, if offered, to buy tobacco or oil. However, this practice changed over time. The text explains that it eventually came to people's minds that one should not go for a saint's darshan empty-handed. It was for this reason that Baba began the practice of taking Dakshina, accommodating the devotional feelings of his followers and providing them an avenue to make an offering.
Why did Sai Baba eventually start accepting Dakshina from his followers?
