Why did Kashiram fight thieves over a simple bundle of sugar, and what was the outcome?

📖 Chapter 0

Kashiram's decision to fight the thieves was rooted in devotion. As Chapter 0 explains, he was carrying a bundle of powdered sugar because a saint named Janakidas Baba had advised him to feed sugar to ants. Therefore, this bundle was very dear to him, representing a sacred duty. When thieves tried to take what they wrongly assumed was treasure, Kashiram refused to let it go. He bravely defended it, picking up a dropped sword and killing two attackers before a third struck him unconscious with an axe. The thieves left him for dead, but he survived. He was taken to Shirdi where, by Maharaj's grace and under the care of Madhavrao Deshpande, he fully recovered from his severe injuries.
