When the Sanyasi first came to Dahanu seeking funds, Dev explained that he could not contribute at that time. As detailed in Chapter 40, Dev was already involved in another fundraising effort for the poor, which was being organized by Raosaheb Narottam Sheti and the Nagarseth. He told the Sanyasi that because this other collection was in progress, there was no 'room for your collection.' Dev advised the Sanyasi that the timing was unfavorable and suggested he return in two to four months, when circumstances might be better.
Why did Dev initially refuse to give a donation to the Sanyasi who visited Dahanu?
