Why did Cholkar take so long to fulfill his vow to Baba, and how did he compensate for the delay?

According to Chapter 15, Cholkar delayed fulfilling his vow due to financial hardship. He came from a 'poor household,' and after passing his examination, he found it difficult to afford the journey to Shirdi. The text poetically describes this struggle, stating that for a worldly man, crossing the 'threshold-ghat' of home expenses is very difficult, and he had to push the days 'from today to tomorrow.' To compensate for this unavoidable delay and maintain his devotional focus, he undertook a personal penance. The scripture mentions that until he could go to Shirdi, 'Cholkar avoided sugar as an inedible substance, And even drank his tea without sugar.'
