Why did Cholkar make a vow involving sugar, and what was the reason for it?

📖 Chapter 15

Cholkar made a vow to Sai Baba out of desperation regarding his career. According to Chapter 15, he came from a poor household and his livelihood depended on passing an examination to make his job permanent. He pledged that if he passed the exam through Baba's grace, he would visit Shirdi and distribute sugar candy (khadisakhar) in Baba's name. As part of this firm resolve, he also gave up consuming sugar himself until he could fulfill his promise. The entire situation was critical, as the text notes that even his daily bread was at stake if he failed.
