According to the account in Chapter 15, Cholkar delayed his journey to Shirdi due to his financial situation. The text describes him as having a "poor household" where "everything depends on a job." After passing his exam, he still struggled with home expenses, which the text poetically calls the "threshold-ghat," a cliff far more difficult for a worldly man to cross than a physical mountain. He had to save up for the journey, as he couldn't go empty-handed, which meant he had to keep pushing the trip from "today to tomorrow." During this entire delay, he maintained his resolve by giving up sugar.
Why did Cholkar delay fulfilling his promise to Sai Baba after he passed his exam?
