Tatya Patil was an exceptionally close devotee of Sai Baba who played an indispensable role in the Chavadi procession. Their relationship, as detailed in Chapter 37, was so intimate and loving that the text says there is "no comparison to give for their close relationship." Tatya affectionately called Baba 'Mama,' which means maternal uncle, highlighting their familial bond. This closeness was demonstrated by the fact that Baba would not leave the Masjid for the Chavadi until Tatya arrived.
