Who was Ratanji and why was he so unhappy despite his immense wealth?

📖 Chapter 14

Ratanji was a very religious and popular Parsi merchant from Nizam's state who possessed vast wealth, including property, carriages, and farms. According to chapter 14, while he appeared to be swimming in an ocean of joy, he was deeply troubled by an inner worry. This source of his constant sadness was that he did not have a son. He had a large family of twelve daughters, but the text explains that the happiness of wealth is entirely fruitless for one without a son, which left his mind without peace and made food and drink taste unsweet to him.
