According to Chapter 25, Damu Anna was a well-to-do person from Ahmednagar, specifically a wealthy Kasar or bronze-smith. He is described as a great devotee who was ardently devoted to Sai Baba's feet. His significant connection to Shirdi is highlighted by his role in the annual Ram Navami festival. For many years, as part of a vow, he provided one of the two large flags that were carried in a procession through the village.
