As described in Chapter 34, Sai Baba, the embodiment of compassion, gave the Udi to the parents after they had poured out their hearts to him. They arrived in Shirdi, took his darshan, and then made a pitiful plea, describing their son's unbearable pain and their own exhaustion. They begged for his 'hand of protection' and explained they had come seeking refuge with total devotion. It was in response to this heartfelt petition that Sai Baba reassured them. He told them to be worry-free and then provided the sacred ash, instructing them, "Take this Udi and smear it on that wound."
When did Sai Baba actually give the Udi to the suffering parents, and what did he say?
