After all medical options had been exhausted for the doctor's nephew, his relatives first suggested worshiping various deities, but this did not seem to help. As described in Chapter 34, word then reached their ears about a famous Avaliya, or saint, in Shirdi named Sai Maharaj. They heard that this King of Yogis could heal diseases and that if he applied his Udi (sacred ash), even incurable ailments would perish. Viewing this as a last resort, the parents decided to try this remedy, packed their belongings, and traveled to Shirdi to seek Sai Baba's darshan and hopefully avert the calamity.
