What was the significance of the dhuni, or sacred fire, for Sai Baba's spiritual practice?

📖 Chapter 5

The dhuni was a central element of Sai Baba's spiritual practice in the mosque, as explained in Chapter 5. It served a practical purpose, providing protection from the cold since he wore only a loincloth. More importantly, it was a focal point for his spiritual offerings. While seated facing the dhuni, Baba would symbolically offer his ego, desires, various mental tendencies, and all worldly inclinations as oblations into the fire. He is described as placing the 'log of knowledge and pride' into this fierce fire-pit, demonstrating a profound act of surrender. All the while, he would constantly repeat 'Allah-Malik' (God is the Master), making the dhuni a powerful symbol of his detachment and devotion.
