During their first encounter at the station, the Sanyasi made an impassioned plea to the Mamlatdar for his support in the religious work of cow protection. As recounted in Chapter 40, after being encouraged by the Master to speak, the Sanyasi approached Dev and presented himself as a humble beggar wandering to prevent cow starvation.
