The Sanyasi's original purpose for visiting Mamlatdar Dev was to collect funds for cow protection. As described in Chapter 40, he presented himself as a beggar working to prevent cow starvation and pleaded with Dev, stating that as the Taluka officer, a single word from him would ensure the success of this religious work. However, Dev could not help at that moment. He explained that another fundraiser, led by Raosaheb Narottam Sheti, was already active in the town for the poor. Dev told the Sanyasi that there was no room for another collection and advised him to return in two or four months when circumstances might be more favorable.
