The Sanyasi's initial request to Dev was for a donation. According to the account in Chapter 40, Dev politely declined, explaining that it was an inopportune time. He informed the Sanyasi that another fund collection was already underway in the town, organized by Raosaheb Narottam Sheti and the Nagarseth. Dev reasoned that there was no capacity for another collection at that moment and advised the Sanyasi to return after two or four months when circumstances might be more favorable.
