What was the promise Cholkar made to Sai Baba and why did it take him a while to keep it?

According to Chapter 15, Cholkar faced a critical situation where his livelihood depended on passing an examination to make his job permanent. He made a vow to Sai Baba that if he passed, he would come for darshan and distribute sugar candy (khadisakhar) in Baba's name. Although his wish was granted and he passed the exam, Cholkar was a poor man and struggled with household expenses, described as a difficult "threshold-ghat" to cross. This financial hardship caused a delay in his journey to Shirdi, as he needed to save money for the trip and couldn't go empty-handed.
