What was the main reason Cholkar delayed his visit to Shirdi, and what personal sacrifice did he make during this period?

📖 Chapter 15

The texts in Chapter 15 explain that Cholkar faced financial difficulties, described metaphorically as the "threshold-ghat" (home expenses) being very difficult to cross. This worldly concern prevented him from immediately traveling to Shirdi to fulfill a vow he had made. During this period of delay, Cholkar undertook a personal penance: he completely abstained from sugar, treating it as an "inedible substance." This sacrifice was so strict that he even drank his tea without any sugar until the time came when he could finally make his pilgrimage.
