The practice of asking for Dakshina was not about accumulating wealth but about teaching a profound lesson in humility. Chapter 14 explains that the essence of this act was that "under the pretext of Dakshina, Baba was teaching His devotees to choose humility." For instance, Baba would sometimes command a great millionaire to go and beg for the Dakshina from a poor person's house. This action was designed to strip away ego and make everyone, whether a wealthy person or a beggar, feel equal in the eyes of Sai, who did not see one as less or more.
