According to Chapter 35, some people held a very skeptical attitude before visiting Shirdi. They believed that saints should not accumulate wealth and viewed Sai Baba's practice of asking for Dakshina (monetary offerings) as a sign that his "saintliness is diminished." As the text states, they firmly resolved to go to Shirdi but decided, "We ourselves will not give Dakshina... But we will not bow at his feet, nor offer any Dakshina." However, Chapter 35 reveals that this resolve was completely overturned upon meeting Sai.
