What was so mysterious about Sai Baba sleeping on the hanging wooden plank?

The mystery of Maharaj's sleeping plank, described in Chapter 0, was twofold. First, the plank itself was suspended from the Masjid's rafters by old, tattered rags that appeared incapable of holding even the plank's weight, let alone the additional weight of Maharaj's body. That they did so was considered a display of his divine power. The second, more profound mystery was that although many people gathered and kept watch, no one ever saw Maharaj climbing onto or getting down from the suspended plank. This inexplicable act baffled onlookers and contributed to the plank becoming such a distraction that Maharaj eventually broke it.
