When Maharaj first arrived, Shirdi was a place frequented by holy men, as it was on a pilgrimage route to southern holy sites like Rameshwar and Pandharpur. According to Chapter 0, Maharaj himself initially resided in a dilapidated Masjid. At the time of his arrival, a saint named Devidas was present, and various other saints would visit him. One notable holy man who stayed for many days was Janakidas, described as very advanced, who spent a lot of time with Maharaj. Gangagir Baba was another famous saint who used to visit, further establishing Shirdi as a place with spiritual significance.
