Chapter 31 narrates a puzzling initial encounter. After the sannyasi Vijayananda took darshan and performed prostrations at Sai Baba's feet, feeling very pleased, Baba's mood suddenly changed. He became disturbed and told the assembly to 'send away this sannyasi; there is no companionship for work.' Being new and not knowing Baba's nature, the sannyasi was understandably distressed by this reception. However, instead of leaving, he remained seated, watching the service, despite his inner turmoil.
What was Sai Baba's initial reaction to the Madrasi sannyasi, and how did the sannyasi respond?
