According to Chapter 33 of the Shri Sai Satcharita, Sai Baba had a consistent daily practice involving Udi, the sacred ash from his Dhuni. He would continuously burn firewood in the sacred fire (Dhuni). The resulting ash, or Udi, was then distributed to devotees. As detailed in the chapter, Baba would give Udi to devotees when they were leaving Shirdi, which served as his permission to depart. He also gave it to those staying in Shirdi throughout the day in the mornings, afternoons, and evenings, never sending anyone away empty-handed.
