What was Sai Baba's daily practice in Shirdi regarding the sacred fire and the distribution of ash?

Sai Baba's daily routine was deeply intertwined with the sacred fire, or Dhuni. As detailed in Chapter 33 of the Shri Sai Satcharita, Baba would purchase bundles of firewood, which he would then offer into the perpetually burning Dhuni in the masjid. From the large quantity of ash that was produced, he created Udi. It was his consistent, daily practice to distribute this Udi to all devotees who came to him. Whether it was morning, afternoon, or evening, Baba would not let anyone leave his presence empty-handed, and this act of giving Udi was a well-known custom to all his followers.
