What was life like for Sai Baba in the early days, before the mosque was renovated around 1912?

📖 Chapter 5

In the early days, before the significant transformation of the mosque began in 1912, Sai Baba's life was quite different. Chapter 5 states that before he even stayed in the mosque, he lived for a long time in a Takia, which is a resting place for Fakirs. There, he would tie bells to his feet and, to the beat of a small tambourine, would dance beautifully and sing sweetly. The mosque itself was in a rustic state, with knee-deep holes in the ground before devotees paved it with stones in a single night. It is also mentioned that in this initial period, not everyone who approached him felt fearless, indicating a time before his following grew into a unified community.
