What was it that made Hemadpant decide to write the Shri Sai Satcharitra?

The primary inspiration for Hemadpant was witnessing Sai Baba's divine plays and their profound, hidden meanings. Specifically, Chapter 1 describes the author's reaction to the wheat-grinding incident. After seeing Baba grind wheat and later learning it was a method to drive away the cholera epidemic, Hemadpant was in awe. He writes, "Seeing the inconceivable cause and effect, I felt like writing a book." This realization that there was a deep, compassionate purpose behind Baba's strange actions filled his heart with love and an overwhelming urge "to sing the sweet story of Baba to my heart's content," which led to the creation of the Satcharitra.
