What was in the small bundle that Kashiram protected from the robbers, and why was it so important to him?

The small bundle that Kashiram fiercely protected from the robbers did not contain treasure, but rather powdered sugar. As explained in Chapter 0, this bundle was exceptionally dear to him for a spiritual reason. He was following the advice of a saint named Janakidas Baba, who had instructed him to feed sugar to ants. Because this act was part of his spiritual practice and a vow he held sacred, Kashiram valued the bundle of sugar so much that he was willing to risk his life to prevent the thieves from taking it.
