What was Damu Anna's specific contribution to the Ram Navami festival in Shirdi?

As detailed in Chapter 25, Damu Anna played a very specific and important role in the annual Ram Navami festival. For many years, he upheld a vow to provide one of the two large new flags that were carried in a procession through Shirdi village. The other flag was provided by the Nimonkars. This act was a regular vow, carried out with what is described as "uninterrupted love and devotion."
