What was Chand Patil's significance in the story of Baba's return to Shirdi?

Chand Patil was instrumental in bringing Baba back to Shirdi. Their initial meeting occurred when Patil had lost his horse. The Fakir, who was Baba, helped him find the mare and then performed miracles by creating a glowing ember from the earth and making water spring from the ground, which stunned Patil. Deeply impressed, Patil insisted Baba come to his home in Dhup village. Later, as described in Chapter 5, a wedding was arranged for Patil's nephew in Shirdi. Drawn by his connection to Chand Patil, Baba joined the wedding party as a guest, which was the very event that brought him to Shirdi where he would ultimately remain.
