What was Baba's philosophy on taking Dakshina? Did he actually need the money?

📖 Chapter 36

According to Chapter 36, Sai Baba's philosophy on accepting Dakshina was rooted in spiritual and karmic principles, not personal need. When Shama questioned him about an unequal transaction with two devotees, Baba explained, "Shama, you don't know; I don't take anything from anyone." He emphasized his complete detachment by asking what use he had for wealth, as he had no house or family. The text clarifies that Baba viewed these offerings as a means for devotees to settle their karmic accounts, stating that "Mother Masjid demands what is owed, and the giver becomes free from debt." He further noted that debt, enmity, and murder are karmic actions that are not easily escaped, reinforcing that Dakshina was part of a deeper spiritual process.
