What warnings does Chapter 12 give about scholars who are proud of their learning?

📖 Chapter 12

In Chapter 12, the Shri Sai Satcharitra issues a strong caution against intellectual pride that obstructs the path of devotion. It advises devotees not to keep the company of those who, despite being well-versed in scriptures like the Vedas, are 'intoxicated with the pride of knowledge.' The text describes their knowledge as the 'stiffness of dry knowledge' which is ultimately fruitless. It contrasts these proud scholars with an ignorant person who, through simple and firm faith, can successfully cross the 'ocean of worldly existence.' Chapter 12 suggests that the complex riddles of these proud scriptural scholars are never solved, and their end does not seem good because they use their learning to disparage devotion.
