What triggers a person to seek an end to suffering and search for a better path, as described in Chapter 17?

📖 Chapter 17

As detailed in Chapter 17, a person is initially caught in the incessantly spinning wheel of worldly existence (Samsara), where they suffer from three unendurable torments known as Tritapa. It is only after becoming exhausted by enduring this extreme peak of sorrow that a person begins to actively search for an escape. This suffering prompts an investigation into how the unendurable cycle can be stopped. The chapter notes that when this thought arises by great fortune, true manhood (Purushartha) is born, and the individual then seeks out the successful means for their own true self-interest, which is the path of Shreya.
